In this week’s thought leadership roundup, we take a look at building out your thought leadership profile with LinkedIn, how to drive creativity and innovation in the workplace, and a handful of exceptional business-to-business blogs you should be reading.

How to Build Thought Leadership with LinkedIn

From Peg Fitzpatrick:

“While LinkedIn doesn’t have the glam look of Pinterest or the speed of Twitter, it does have a huge population of people ready to connect and grow their own personal networks and expertise.

Have you been ignoring LinkedIn because you’re too busy tweeting and posting elsewhere? It doesn’t take a huge amount of attention to make your LinkedIn presence shine like an influencer. The most common reason people don’t stay active on LinkedIn is because they aren’t looking for a job. LinkedIn can maintain your solid network so if you ever are in a position where you need to look for a job, you are well-connected and optimized. LinkedIn connections can help you in current positions by building a referral stream, forging connections with people in the same position with different companies in groups, and most importantly building thought leadership in your area of expertise.”

Our take: If you’re serious about building out your thought leader portfolio, think about it: Twitter is a gushing river of conversation, Facebook doesn’t grant its users full control or visibility, Pinterest has a narrow market, and fledgling bloggers struggle every day to get seen by the audience they want to speak to. LinkedIn offers up a platform that helps anyone with the gumption to overcome these challenges — Ms. Fitzpatrick’s advice is spot on.

VODCAST: Driving Creativity in the Workplace

From Telstra Enterprise:

“We take a look at innovation in the workplace with creativity trainer Gary Bertwistle who has helped companies like NRMA, Kellogs and Westpac, to discover and encourage creativity in all levels of business. Bertwistle talks with Jeanne-Vida Douglas about how large companies can implement creativity programs that deliver tangible results.”

Our take: It doesn’t matter what industry you’re in; creativity, ideation, and innovation are paramount to growth. This short but poignant interview with Bertwistle is a to-the-point explanation of why driving these initiatives takes more than fun office murals and rooms full of bean bags.

7 Brilliant Examples of B2B Blogs

From ExperMedia:

It’s no secret that a useful, content-rich blog can be super-effective in building visibility and credibility (not to mention traffic, leads and sales) for a business, whether it’s large, medium, small or micro.

Consider these compelling statistics (sourced from HubSpot via Writtent.com):

- Companies that blog 15 or more times per month get 5x more traffic than companies that don’t blog.

- Small businesses (1-10 employees) tend to see the biggest gains in traffic when they post more blog articles.

- Companies that increase blogging from 3-5 times/month to 6-8 times/month almost double their leads.

- B2B companies that blog only 1-2 times/month generate 70% more leads than those who don’t blog.

With so much content (READ: dross) cluttering up the social web, it’s an absolute joy to stumble upon a well-written and maintained online content hub produced by a business that truly ‘gets’ the power and nuance of this blogging caper.”

Our take: While we’re a little sad that Conspire didn’t make the list, there’s no denying that the blogs that did are on there for a reason. Great piece for any bloggers who want to hone their tactics.
