The collective ‘we’ tends to think of social collaboration as a new phenomena, centered around the various platforms and networks that boast the term. But in reality, the practice of social collaboration started at least as early as the 1960s, when computers were first used to aid government design projects in the US.

A Walk Through History

This interactive infographic from Autodesk presents the history of social collaboration from the 1950s through modern day. Learn all about ENIAC, the world’s first all-purpose computer that weighed 30 tons, Talkomatic (the 1970s’ version of the chat room), and 1983′s DynaTAC 8000x — the first commercially-released mobile phone that retailed for $3,995 USD.

Social collaboration might be sewn into the very fabric of our working and personal lives these days, but it’s eye-opening to realize what it took to get us to this point.
